Shema

Awhile back I was asked to make a large typographic treatment of the Shema to be printed on a large canvas. While I had intended on changing colours, background, etc, this is what I came up with and I still really like it. While I choose to use each word only once, I had thought about redoing it and using different words more often. What do you guys think?

Vote for Design

Hey everyone, so I’ve been busy in the last couple days at my new job here at Ranger Lake Bible Camp, and one of my first tasks was to finish up some design work I had begun back in December for the camp. After developing their brochure and poster, I was now ready to create the shirt design for the summer. Typically I like to carry over thematic elements and I am quite pleased with the design. Visit Poetic Industries to see the original poster. However, we are getting different opinions on the use of colour in the shirt and so I turn it over to you, my readers. Please comment on which shirt you like best and if you have any other thoughts, please add those to your vote as well.

Andy Shauf Show

Print Coming up this Saturday, I am getting the chance to show off my Poetic Industries art and tees. I also got the chance to design this poster for the event. While its not my best work, it was fun to throw together something quickly for this concert. Andy Shauf is a very talented young man and I encourage everyone close enough to Saskatoon to come join us. Cost is $10/door or $8 with a donation for the Food Bank. Here is a link to the Facebook Event.

If all works out I will be able to show off my first skateboard as it should arrive before Saturday. It is an all ages event and should be a great show. It is being put on by my friend and co-worker Dallas Pelly. Can’t wait.

Portraits

I came across this portfolio from Abduzeedo and just had to post it here. Joel Grimes knows how to capture a person. His work makes me want to pick my camera back up again. These pictures are beautiful. I encourage you to check out his site as I have just picked a very small sample to wet your appetite.

New Site

First off, I have to tell everyone that Terribly Poetic nows has permanent location in cyberspace at www.terriblypoetic.com and as well you may notice some of the links above are missing. That is because they have moved to www.poeticindustries.com

This is the first of a serious of changes that I hope to make to improve these sites. There will be more coming that will introduce a new look to the site and hopefully a way to run the site as I am looking into switching to my own site run Wordpress. While I love iWeb for its simplicity and ease of setting up my first foray into self created blogosphere, I long for more options, more editablity, and ultimately I hope that this will aid in my ability to post more often. Currently with iWeb, I can only blog from one computer. This puts a serious crink in my style when I think up a great blog post while at work, or travelling or driving in my car, or in a coffee shop and I don’t happen to have access to that one particular computer.

So stay tuned as it is going to take some time to make the switch.

Watch Out

So yesterday we got a chance to go Skeet Shooting. I gotta say that I really miss shooting things. Reminded me of the good ole days of shooting cans and such with my Dad on the farm. While I have done my share of target practice before, I had never tried to shoot a flying object before. After some early frustration I finally “got it” and started to hit skeets. Dawn also grew up doing her share of target shooting in NWT in scouts. She took hold of the gun like an old pro. I think I’ll have to be abit more careful now that I don’t cross her.

I think this might have re-sparked my love of guns I had at an early age. In fact, just last year I donated my childhood gun, complete with scope, to Ranger Lake Bible Camp. While that gun was only the typical BB/Pellet Gun, I sure have alot of found memories with it. If it wasn’t for the sweet gun control act I would find myself doing this alot more. If anyone else happens to be doing this I would gladly fire off some of your rounds.

Office Hack Part One

So I finally got tired of all the cables behind my monitor and desk collecting dust and I decided to do something about it. After seeing a few articles on Lifehacker regarding sweet office setups I decided it was my turn to begin to transform my office into the ultimate workstation. Cable management was top priority on hacking my office part one. I was lucky enough to have this kitchen cabinet left over from a house reno a year ago. After drilling a few holes to allow cables through and zip tying a few power strips onto the back I was set. I plan to add a USB hub to allow more peripherals to be hooked up, however, right now I have 3 Firewire HDs, a Blue Snowball mic and an extra USB for hooking up cameras, etc. The large stainless steel handle also made a great spot to hang my headphones. To have a closer look you will have to click on read more to see the rest of the pics.

Now its on to part two….. hmmmm

I’m Famous

Hey everyone, I’m Famous! Er, maybe by everyone I should say, “attention all geeks,” either way I am famous. Thanks to Greg Benson, my counterpart on our tech blog for forwarding me to this article on the popular site of Macworld, which tokens me for my “Firefox 3 and iweb fix” which I posted awhile ago. Seems the techie world took notice and I got my name and a link to Terribly Poetic on MACWORLD! I can’t believe, and if you don’t either, just click through and read the article. Albeit, the article probably won’t mean anything to 99% of you, but either way you can see for yourself that I am on Macworld site. Is this my 15 minutes or just the beginning? Next stop Macworld magazine cover!

Do I love Apple or what?

I’ve been doing some experimenting in Photoshop and Illustrator lately in hopes of expanding on my graphic design knowledge and/or portfolio. While I was having fun with lighting effects I decided to make this image. Click read more to be able to fully appreciate it. Maybe I’ll start posting more graphic works on here soon.
